How can HELPTeamTech serve your Community?

Recently published scientific studies have documented that having seniors engage in challenging mental exercise stimulates brain cell growth. Integrating technology into the daily life of your residents can provide a means of stimulation that may ultimately result in helping to reach those valued goals of preservation of independence; life with dignity and purpose; long-term mental and physical well-being; and a sense of community.

Cross Generational Link

A valuable component of HELPTeamTech’s services is its cross-generational link provided through connections with area high schools. HELPTeamTech offers liaisons with high school seniors needing to fulfill community service graduation requirements. High school tech mentors visit on a regular schedule. They bring a breath of fresh air to residents through their youth and exuberance for applying technology. These teen-age tech “gurus” will help maximize the benefits of technology in the retirement community.

Peer Coaching

HELPTeamTech also encourages the organization of peer coaching and extended support systems within the community. The Residents’ Website will include a database of individuals who excel in technology skills and/or applications. A resident reluctant to participate in regularly organized activities may be pleased to assist his/her peers with expertise in technology, thus creating a culture of adult learning and support.

Communication

Wiredseniors.com, a Canadian website for older adults, recently published the following email:

“I am trying to assist with finding someone/a company/community who can help my in-laws with their computer. They are about to pack it in…they can’t seem to get online…or work their email… I live in Winnipeg…their grandkids are in Winnipeg…they are in Toronto. We’d be able to communicate so much if they were only online…!”

Had this family had access to HELPTeamTech and a Technologist in Residence this technical frustration could have been quickly eliminated and turned into a happy ending with the two parties regularly exchanging chatty and satisfying emails …removing the son in law’s guilt and his in-law’s exasperation. The goal of HELPTeamTech is to provide your residents with the tools and knowledge to use their computers and technology effectively and efficiently to remain in touch with their community and the world at large.
